Thepipanews – To manage his appeal of a $83.3 million defamation judgment rendered in favor of E. Jean Carroll, Donald Trump is currently looking for a new legal team.
The former president wrote on Truth Social late on Tuesday night, “My team and I are interviewing different law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most absurd and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen.”
Lewis Kaplan, a U.S. District Judge, was another person Trump attacked, branding him an “out of control activist.”
Trump claimed that the court had behaved like a tyrant by demanding two trials rather than one, depriving him of due process, and limiting his chance to offer important evidence. Trump goes on to say that the judge dominated the exchange, guiding the questions his attorney asked and telling him to limit his response to one word. Trump adds that the judge’s wife and pals were in the front row and seemed to be having fun.
He suggested that he would make a choice shortly.
“Any attorney accepting a case from Trump is either ‘CRAZY,’ or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT,” the president added.
For the former president in the Carroll case, Alina Habba represented him legally. She and the judge couldn’t agree during the hearings. That being said, it is not unusual for people to consult with various attorneys during the appeals process.
Trump will be represented by attorneys Harmeet Dhillon, Jonathan Mitchell, and Scott Gessler in his future 14th Amendment action. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in this case next month. Whether Trump can be removed from the Colorado state ballot based on the constitutional provision that forbids anybody who has taken part in an uprising or rebellion from holding public office will depend on how this case plays out.
John Sauer, a former Missouri solicitor general, has been recruited by former president Trump to represent him in appeals. In his case against presidential immunity before the U.S. Court of Appeals D.C. Circuit, Sauer effectively defended Trump.
