California Police Officer Ambushed and Shot by Criminal Freed by Progressive DA’s Challenger

The person running against him for office claimed that the region’s chief prosecutor’s lenient approach to crime may have allowed a known gang member with a history of violent crimes to shoot a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officer while in jail.

Raymundo Duran, who is 47 years old, is being accused of shooting Deputy Samuel Aispuro in the back while he was riding his marked sheriff’s motorbike at a stop light on April 22nd in West Covina, California. According to court records, Duran has a history of violent crimes. This includes two felony assaults that he committed while serving an 11-year sentence for manslaughter.

Aispuro, who had worked for the police department for nearly 20 years, was wearing protective gear and managed to survive the unexpected attack.

In 2021, Duran was caught by the police after they chased him on foot and in a car. He was accused of committing a hit-and-run, refusing to be arrested, and fleeing from a police officer. According to authorities, they had to forcefully collide with Duran’s car in order to make him stop. After the collision, Duran briefly tried to escape from the scene.

According to George Gascón’s opponent in the race, George Gascón, who is a Democrat and the District Attorney of Los Angeles County, had the option to send Duran to jail. However, instead of doing that, as part of a plea deal, Duran was given probation.

According to Nathan Hochman, a former federal lawyer who is running as an independent to replace Gascón, many people believe that Raymundo Duran has been committing violent acts for many years and is considered a sociopath. Hochman gave an interview to Fox News Digital. “Regrettably, the sentences he has received have not stopped him from committing more acts of violence.”

“So, when George Gascón has the opportunity to address Mr. Duran and prevent him from victimising others, he chooses to impose the least severe sentences,” he said.

Many people in Gascón’s office, as well as police and elected officials, strongly disagree with his progressive views on criminal justice.

Jason Lustig has been the boss of lawyers in Los Angeles County for almost four years. He said that they no longer feel motivated.

He said to Fox News Digital, “Everyone is simply tired of it.” “Every day we see more victims being added all the time.”

In 2021, Duran was caught because he had violated his parole and was wanted by the authorities. He had been found guilty of four serious crimes in the past. In 1996, he was also found guilty of domestic abuse. Hochman said that in 2002, he received an 11-year prison sentence for killing his boss at a Jiffy Lube with a knife. He agreed to a plea deal.

In 2003, Duran hit a guard at Salinas Valley State Prison. This happened one year after he started his sentence. According to court documents, he stated that he was “not guilty” in Monterey County Superior Court.

Duran used a homemade knife called a “shank” to stab another prisoner on November 9, 2009. He pleaded guilty to hurting a prisoner in a way that could have caused serious physical harm. As a result, he received an additional four years in prison.

After being released from jail, he violated his parole. In February 2022, he was caught with a gun without a permit while still serving his sentence. Duran committed a crime that could have resulted in a six-year jail sentence. However, Duran decided to accept a plea deal and was instead sentenced to two years and four months.

“If he had received a sentence of six years or more in 2021, he would not have been in a position to shoot the gun at the constable in West Covina,” Hochman said.

Fox News Digital has attempted to contact Gascón’s office.

Dugan was captured in San Diego County a few hours after the unexpected shooting. The car he was driving was a 2008 Toyota Camry. He is being charged with attempting to murder a police officer, assaulting a police officer, and possessing a gun while being a criminal.

Police officer Samuel Aispuro was shot for no apparent reason. Gascón stated a few days after the shooting, “This incident serves as a clear reminder of the risks that our police officers encounter on a daily basis.” “Our office is committed to pursuing the most severe charges against the criminal within the limits of the law.” We are sending our support to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Deputy Aispuro as they recover from what happened.
