People Are Moving From Pennsylvania to These Cities

Sometimes, a new year is a good time to pick up your life and start over somewhere else. That may sound like a big deal. But some of my friends have moved to start the new year. Where should you move then? Well, Americans are moving away from some places and moving to others. It turns out that many people are leaving Pennsylvania for other places.

U-Haul made the new study. It has their U-Haul Growth Index, which lists the places that will grow the most in 2023. “U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its vast network that covers all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces,” they say. U-Haul’s 23,000 truck and trailer rental locations give the company a unique view of where people are moving that no one else in the business can match. It’s true that U-Haul knows a lot about moving.

Let’s start. Orlando-Palm Bay is the place where most Americans are moving to right now. In fact, seven Florida markets were ranked by the U-Haul Growth Index as one of the top 25 growth towns in 2023. People are still moving to Florida, most likely to retire. Ocala, Florida, is the second most popular city in the country. In fact, Ocala was number one in 2022, so it fell a bit this year. Three hundred and thirty-threeths of the cities on the list are here. Naples-Bradenton is in fourth place, and Austin, Texas is in fifth.

It’s disappointing that none of the cities in Pennsylvania made the list of the top 25. I believe that more people should come live here. “U-Haul migration trends do not directly correlate to population or economic growth,” says U-Haul. “How well states and cities are attracting and keeping residents is one good way to measure this.” Here is a full list of all the places where Americans are moving.
