17-year-old killed by train while crossing tracks on way to school, Illinois officials

Police say a teen from Illinois died when she was hit by a train on her way to school. Trying to cross the tracks after a train had gone by, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said in a news release on January 25. But she was hit by a second train that was going by. As per the Barrington Fire Department, the second train was a Metra passenger train.

The teen was later found to be Marin Lacson, 17, of Barrington. The school said in a statement that she was a junior in high school and played lacrosse and was in the Chinese Immersion Program.

The event caused Lacson’s death by blunt force injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

A news report says that the event is still being looked into. About 40 miles north of Chicago is Barrington.
