NFL referee Shawn Smith had a difficult night at work since he had trouble speaking during the game, which alarmed the crowd.

When the veteran NFL referee made several “brutal voice cracks” while working the AFC championship game on Sunday, fans took to social media to voice their displeasure.

Smith officiated the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens game as the lead official.

He made multiple appearances during the CBS broadcast, but he didn’t sound like the upbeat man he usually is.

Smith’s voice cracked during his calls during the game, which alarmed fans about his health.

Many took their complaints to X, the former name of Twitter.

“Get Shawn Smith a cough drop,” someone uttered. He ought to have taken the day off.”

“Poor Shawn Smith, he has a cold today,” said someone else.

A third: “Someone please bring Shawn Smith some water. The poor man.”

A fourth person said, “Someone gets a drink of water for Shawn Smith.” The poor man.”

Some joked that his voice made it difficult for them to concentrate on the game during this time.

To his credit, he’s making an effort to call a pivotal AFC playoff game between the Chiefs and Ravens.
