Trump dives into a Texas political feud with a latest endorsement

In a surprising move, former President Donald Trump announced his endorsement of a candidate who is challenging Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan. Phelan has faced criticism from Republicans both in Texas and across the country for his support of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment in the previous year.

David Covey, a candidate running against Phelan in Texas’ 21st state House District, has recently gained the support of former President Trump and Attorney General Paxton. This endorsement comes just in time for the upcoming GOP primary in March.

In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump stated that David Covey is running against Dade Phelan, the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Trump also accused Phelan of leading the Fraudulent Impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton, who was recently re-elected in a landslide victory. David is a conservative candidate who prioritizes securing the border, restoring election integrity, protecting families and military/veterans, and defending the Second Amendment, which he believes is under threat.

In a turn of events, Paxton faced impeachment by the Texas House of Representatives last May, with the backing of Phelan. However, the state Senate ultimately acquitted him of allegations of corruption and abuse of office in September. Following Paxton’s acquittal, Trump publicly urged Phelan to step down.

A voter expressed their intention to support President Trump for a third time, having already voted for him twice. Speaker Phelan issued a statement on Tuesday, asserting that President Trump is not familiar with him or his track record of advocating for the people of Southeast Texas. “Regrettably, my opponents have pursued this endorsement as part of their ongoing efforts to retaliate against me for my commitment to holding public officials accountable and safeguarding the Texas House from external influences.”

In a surprising turn of events, the former president made a decision that caught many off guard. This decision came shortly after Phelan publicly declared his support for Trump’s campaign. Donald Trump has further cemented his position as the leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, following his victories in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.

Last week, Dade Phelan expressed his intention to support President Trump for a third time, stating, “I voted for President Trump twice for President, and I’m going to vote for him a third time.” It is believed that he is likely to become the nominee. The remarks made by Speaker Phelan have caused significant embarrassment to the State of Texas and the Republican Party. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump stated.

Paxton, a strong supporter of former President Trump, has played a significant role in the campaign to remove Phelan from office. He has been actively involved, making appearances on the campaign trail and starring in TV advertisements supporting Covey.
