Anchorage airport records its coldest temperature in last 15 years

Temperatures plummeted to record-breaking lows in Anchorage, particularly at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. In fact, it was the coldest temperature the airport has experienced in the past 15 years!

In the late hours of January 31st, the temperature at the airport dropped to a bone-chilling 18 degrees below zero. This marked the coldest day since January 2009. Anchorage experienced its coldest temperature for any January 31, surpassing the previous record of -17 set in 1989.

In a remarkable turn of events, the temperature plummeted to a bone-chilling -16 degrees this morning, matching the record for the lowest temperature on February 1st set back in 1993.

Prepare to stay bundled up, as the frigid subzero temperatures are expected to persist throughout the weekend.

Frigid temperatures, reaching as low as 30s, 40s, and 50s below zero, are expected to continue in the Interior. Exposure to such conditions can lead to frostbite on exposed skin within a short timeframe!

Another round of snow has hit Southeast Alaska, as frigid air coincided with incoming moisture from the south. Winter storm warnings and advisories are set to take effect until Friday.
