Residents of a quiet lakeside neighborhood couldn’t believe what they were seeing when an enormous bald eagle suddenly landed on a front lawn. In this fictional account, the bird remained there for several minutes, allowing one homeowner to capture a remarkable series of photographs from a safe distance.

At first, the eagle appeared to be examining something hidden in the grass. Moments later, witnesses realized it had captured a large fish near the shoreline and carried it onto the lawn, where it could eat without standing in the shallow water.

The eagle spread its enormous wings whenever anyone moved too close, creating an intimidating sight. From wingtip to wingtip it appeared nearly as wide as a person is tall, and several neighbors came outside after hearing that the huge bird was sitting only yards from their homes.

After finishing part of its meal, the eagle gripped what remained in its powerful talons. It stood upright, opened its wings, and launched itself from the lawn before flying back toward the lake and disappearing into the trees on the opposite shoreline.
