These are the Best and Worst Major US Cities to Earn $100K

In theory, making $100,000 a year sounds like it would give you extra money in case something happens. Still, the value of $100,000 varies on where you live because rising prices, taxes, and interest rates can make it very hard to buy things.

A PYMTS poll found that in December 2022, 51% of people who made more than $100,000 a year said they lived paycheck to paycheck. This was up from 42% in December 2021.

SmartAsset looked at the difference in pay after taxes in 76 of the biggest cities in the U.S. and took into account the cost of living in each city.

Because of taxes and living costs, $100,000 is only worth $35,791 in New York City. On the other hand, most of the top 10 places where money goes the furthest are in Texas.
