Trump Entourage Takes to Twitter, Defying Gag Order in High-Stakes Trial Drama

People close to Donald Trump, including a possible vice presidential candidate, live-tweeted from the historic criminal trial of the ex-president on Monday. This was an unusual attempt to undermine Michael Cohen, the star witness who used to work as a fixer for Trump.

The judge in charge of the case, Juan Merchan, has told Trump not to say anything about the trial witnesses. If he does, the 77-year-old could go to jail.

That includes Cohen and Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who says Cohen paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about her claimed sexual encounter with Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Even so, his son Eric Trump and several US senators, including JD Vance, went to the Manhattan court and posted harsh comments on social media against Cohen. They said the charges against the Republican candidate were politically motivated.

“I have never seen anything more rehearsed!” Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organisation and the only family member of Trump’s father who was in court during the trial that lasted weeks, wrote on X while Cohen answered questions from the lawyers.

Vance joined the younger Trump, who was sitting right behind his father. Vance is in the race to be Trump’s running mate in November.

Michael Cohen admitted that he recorded his boss in secret. Just normal behaviour, right?” Vance put up.

He also criticised the media for saying that Trump’s mental health is getting worse because of claims that he has been falling asleep during the trial.

“The story is ridiculous.” This is my 26th hour here, I’m 39 years old, and I’m about to fall asleep, Vance wrote.

Another supporter, Andrew Giuliani, sat in the back of the courtroom. He is the son of Trump’s disgraced former lawyer Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani sent out more than 50 tweets, most of which attacked Cohen as a “convicted felon” and “serial liar” and made fun of the Manhattan district attorney who brought the case.

While the hearing on Monday was taking a break, Senator Tommy Tuberville spoke out against the disrespect shown to his “friend” Trump and the bad conditions in the Manhattan building.

“This is New York City, the icon of our country, and we’ve got a courtroom that’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever been in,” said Tuberville.

“The Republican candidate for president of the United States this year is being pushed into mental pain.” That is all this is.”
